This is my first blog I have ever written. It is not a strength of mine to put my thoughts into written words but, I am trying to grow in all aspects of life so I decided to write this. I wanted to take the time to explain Crude&Clever, what the business is and why the name.

The Business Concept:

The main concept of Crude&Clever is to combine home decor with home prepping. People spend a lot of money to decorate their houses. These decorations typically have just the simple purpose of filling a space and looking good. For years I have enjoyed crafting, building things and working on my own home. I try to DIY everything in my house. The first big project I started was redoing my basement. I enjoy thinking outside of the box and I found myself completing my basement in an industrial/prepping vibe. What I mean by that is I like using materials that I feel are durable and could serve another purpose if ever needed. I was using metals, chains, ropes, wood, and epoxy. I was designing the furniture in my basement in ways that could be broken down if I ever needed to. Example: I designed a table around the support beam in my basement, I constructed a wood frame and then used 50ft of 3/4 manila rope to wrap around the pole and frame. My thought behind this was if for some reason in whatever emergency situation you can think of I would have 50ft of 3/4 manila rope and instead of just having it sit in a storage area in my house I incorporated it into my home in a subtly way and it looks great! I learned that I really enjoy trying to craft ideas to blend these two categories. I also enjoy prepping for myself and family and being prior military I enjoy gear.

It took me awhile to come up with the concept. I have always desired entrepreneurship and for a long time have thought about taking the leap but struggled to figure out what I wanted to pour my life into. Then, one day it hit me like a sack of potatoes. I love crafting, I love prepping and I love gear. So, why not combine all three and start a new concept of incorporating prepping into items that can also be used to decorate a home. Instead of just filling a space to fill it you can now fill it with something that has more function to it. This was a concept I have a passion for and I am motivated to share with the world because maybe it helps protect or saves someones life one day. From here the business was born and now to name it.

Why Crude&Clever:

I have always liked the word “clever”. I also think it can be a very important attribute to have as a person. It can help you handle many different situations and navigate life. When crafting I always enjoy trying to be clever in what I am building and how to build it. I also found myself being a little crude with the way I like to build. When I say, “crude” I do not mean the use of being “crude” to someone. I think of it more along the lines of being simple and/or rough. The industrial style of decorating is crude in my opinion but I love it. I love the roughness to it and how simple a lot of it is yet it is beautiful and functional. So, I combined the two words and liked the way it sounded. It also has meaning to me and most importantly the .com domain was available! It also worked out that I think in emergency situations being Crude and being Clever are important. Overthinking can create problems so being simple can be effective and being clever is always effective.

I left my corporate job 2 weeks ago to pursue this dream and passion. This is just the start but I look forward to growing this business to help people prepare for whatever Earth has to throw at them.
